Mark
Division: Finance
Title: Manager
Qualification(s): Bachelor of Accounting

I was attracted to Macquarie because of its premium reputation, industry leaders and expanding, diverse activities: I knew I could not get better accounting related experience at any other company in Australia.

Working at Macquarie has been a great opportunity. I am continually learning, especially because the business is always changing and developing. I work alongside the best people in the industry, people who invented a lot of the business models that others are now following.

Things never stand still at Macquarie. My work is characterised by variety, new business activities, new challenges and new events.

I would like to move overseas some time in the not-too-distant future. Macquarie's growth and overseas expansion mean that many people take the opportunity to gain international experience. In my current role, I have already travelled to the UK to work with one of the assets of the Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group.

Division: Finance
Title: Associate Director

My previous employer was one of Macquarie's clients, and the exposure I gained while working with Macquarie on a number of deals gave me a unique insight into its values, ethics, dynamics and 'can do' attitude. I liked what I saw, and joined Macquarie as a result.

I have been here two years, and have since been promoted to senior manager. Macquarie's strong company growth provides opportunities for personal growth, and for taking on more responsibility. I've been given the opportunity to work overseas but for the moment, I want to stay where I am. My team is responsible for accounting on Macquarie Capital's Principal deals and investments, which I find both challenging and exciting.

Macquarie attracts the best talent and goes to great lengths to support and retain its people. You are exposed to cutting-edge thinking in a number of areas, and the 'freedom within boundaries' environment provides an excellent platform for growing with the business.

Title: Division Director

I wanted a challenging role in a dynamic, high profile environment and at Macquarie, I certainly found it. The most enjoyable aspects of my job are the people, the diversity, and the opportunities to work on new transactions.

I am the finance manager for two listed infrastructure funds, and since I've been in this role, both funds have acquired companies and raised capital. I found these transactions enjoyable, because they were both interesting and challenging. My role has also given me the opportunity to travel offshore at various times, and I recently assisted with the establishment of one of Macquarie's new funds located in the Middle East.

Macquarie differentiates itself by the calibre of its people and by always being involved in new activities. It is really flexible in helping its people achieve their career goals, and the excellent mentoring and training programs ensure you progress the way you want to.

Division: Finance
Title: Executive
Qualification(s): Bachelor Commerce / Economics

I wanted to join Macquarie because of the career opportunities and training on offer, in particular the level of support for the CA program. The chance to work with talented people is present the moment you walk through the door.

I joined as part of the Finance Division's rotation program, which has given me experience in Investment Banking Funds, Corporate Reporting, and currently Banking and Property Group. This exposure to Macquarie's various operations has been the most enjoyable aspect of my role, and helped me understand the organisation as a whole.

There is no 'typical day' as a graduate at Macquarie. Throughout my first year, I have dealt with Macquarie's Foreign Exchange exposures, communicated and worked with offshore accountants, attended business meetings, met with finance teams of asset companies, and performed daily funding processes. My major responsibilities currently include completing the daily funding process for Macquarie Relationship Banking, working on the budgeting process, and working with the Consumer Lending team on various tasks.

Title: Dealer
Qualification(s): Bachelor of Applied Finance and Bachelor of Economics

Since joining Macquarie as a dealer, I have entered a fast-paced, pressurised atmosphere. I am given real responsibilities that are important to the organisation's progress and survival.

I enjoy working in Treasury, and would like to progress in this team. There is a reasonably clear pathway to move forward, which in the short term would involve dealing in more offshore funding markets, such as those in Europe and the US. What I find most stimulating about working on the dealing floor at Macquarie is the exciting atmosphere of living and dying by your results, and the culture of freedom with accountability.

Macquarie supports you and pushes you to achieve difficult but realistic goals. If you want to try things a little differently or improve your skill-set, you will generally receive support rather than obstruction.
