Macquarie has such a range of products on offer that my knowledge and experience is constantly being challenged. Even though we have daily processes that need to be dealt with, my role still has enough variety to challenge me, and issues arise that require me to think on my feet.

At Macquarie, you are recognised and rewarded for your hard work. Managers care about their staff, and are not full of empty promises. There is a strong ethic of teamwork both in my own team and across my department that makes my job enjoyable. At the same time, I also enjoy building relationships between Macquarie and custodians and brokers, worldwide.

Macquarie is open and direct in what is expected of you. You are supported through external studies, and your ideas and recommendations receive support. I've been able to progress my career within funds management, and had the opportunity to build strong networking associates.

I was lucky enough to start working in Macquarie Funds Group  just as our international equities funds were getting started. This was a fantastic introduction to funds management, enabling me to see first hand the process of taking an idea for an investment strategy and maturing it into a fund.

Since then, I have moved into dealing, and report directly to the International & Equity portfolio managers. I work with an intelligent and motivated team, in a role which is dynamic and allows me to interact with a range of personalities. It is challenging and rewarding at the same time.

I work in Alternative Investments and the only thing 'typical' about my day is the broad range of problems and issues I encounter. But being involved in all aspects of a deal from start to finish is a lot of fun and I enjoy the diversity in my role.

It's the people that make any organisation, and at Macquarie, there are a lot of amazing people who never seem to be short of amazing ideas. In fact, it was the people who interviewed me that drew me to Macquarie: I thought they would be great to work with, and they haven't disappointed!

My immediate goal is to become lead portfolio manager of a fund. I think I can work anywhere in the world, the more important thing is to select a market in which to specialise, then step up and take on the responsibility. At Macquarie there is no shortage of opportunity, you just need to put up your hand.
