Bill Bennett Feature– THE NUGGET World Premiere’s at Toronto International Film Festival 2002

29 August 2002

THE NUGGET written and directed by Bill Bennett and starring AFI Award winners Eric Bana and Vince Colosimo and Belinda Emmett has been selected to screen at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2002.

The film was produced by Bill Bennett and Jennifer Bennett with Richard Sheffield as executive producer.

Toronto International Film Festival is a highlight of the film industry calender and has been an avid supporter of Australian Cinema over recent years. THE NUGGET will screen in the ‘Contemporary World Cinema’ section along side the pick of films from around the globe including the hit feature ‘Bend It Like Beckham’.

The NUGGET is a heart warming tale that looks at how instant wealth suddenly changes the lives of working class men - not necessarily for the better, but always with hilarious consequences.

Jennie Hughes, Macquarie Filmed Investments Senior VP said, “We are absolutely delighted that THE NUGGET was selected out of a very competitive field of new films. It’s a terrific venue from which to have the world premiere of the film”.

Bill Bennett added, “I’m thrilled to be invited back to Toronto after ‘Kiss or Kill’ screened in ’96. The inclusion of THE NUGGET is an indication of the broad appeal of the film”.

Macquarie is co-investing in the film with the Premium Movie Partnership’s Showtime, the Australian Film Finance Corporation and NSWFTO. Overseas Film Group/First Look Films and TFI are joint international sales agents. Village Roadshow is the Australian distributor, who are releasing the film theatrically in Australia on October 17, 2002.

Macquarie Film Corporation is one of only two companies licensed under the Film Licensed Investment Company Act 1998 (FLIC) and has now invested in eight feature films including, Dirty Deeds (selected for a Special Presentation at the Toronto Film Festival 2002), Crackerjack, Horseplay, Take Away, Bad Eggs, Danny and The Wannabes.
