Macquarie Bank Foundation supports student research expo

The Macquarie Bank Foundation has given its support to the Student Research Expo being held at St Joseph’s Catholic High School at Albion Park over the next two days, furthering its education support in the Illawarra.

The Macquarie Bank Foundation has given its support to the Student Research Expo being held at St Joseph’s Catholic High School at Albion Park over the next two days, furthering its education support in the Illawarra.

The Expo enables students from the region to showcase their research in areas such as biology, ecology, physics, mathematical sciences, technology and geography.

Macquarie Bank Foundation Manager Julie White said the Expo was one of several Foundation education initiatives benefitting the Illawarra.

“Education is a stepping stone to opportunity and the Macquarie Bank Foundation supports a range of programs that give both children and adults, of all academic abilities, the chance to learn,” Mrs White said.

“Many of these programs are known to the Illawarra community. For example, the Macquarie Bank Future Problem Solving Program, which tests students’ analytical skills, has been dominated by Illawarra students in recent years.

“For two years running, teams from the Illawarra Grammar School were named international Grand Champions in their division, while Illawarra teacher Jan Hales this year received the prestigious Keith Frampton Award for her outstanding coaching.

“Wollongong University student Simone Collier was the first recipient of the Macquarie Bank Indigenous Cadetship, which offers young Aboriginal people a career path into management roles in the finance industry.

“Simone spends three months a year during the summer holidays working at Macquarie Bank and learning about various aspects of the finance industry.

“The Macquarie Bank Foundation has also been a strong supporter of the Bundanon Trust, Arthur Boyd’s estate on the Shoalhaven River, which provides opportunities for school groups to visit, learn about Australian art and explore their own creative abilities.

“The Student Research Expo provides another educational outlet. It encourages inquisitive minds to explore possibilities and develop innovative ideas. We wish all the students well with their projects.”

The Student Research Expo is being held at St Joseph’s Catholic High School at 16 Macquarie St, Albion Park, on July 29 and 30.
