Macquarie's Tsunami Donations

12 January 2005

On 29 December 2004, in an immediate response to the Tsunami Disaster on Boxing Day, the Macquarie Bank Foundation pledged $A100,000 to the Australian Red Cross and pledged to match all staff donations across the Macquarie Group.

$A730,000 of donations from the Foundation and staff-matching have now been made. Over 750 staff from 17 offices in 10 countries have donated to various organisations to aid in the relief of suffering for those affected by the tragedy.

These include:

  • Care
  • Caritas
  • Oxfam
  • Red Cross (Various Red Cross' Globally and International Red Cross Red Crescent)
  • Salvation Army
  • Unicef
  • World Vision
  • UK Disasters Emergency Committee

A huge effort was made particularly by the Hong Kong office who quickly raised $A79,165 towards the total donation.
