10 July 2006 Some of rugby league’s best role models – Brad Fittler AM, Nathan Hindmarsh and Dean Widders – will pass on their skills to 700 young boys and girls from Sydney and regional NSW in a Macquarie Bank Sports Super Clinic this week. The clinic is a joint initiative with Australian Rugby League’s Telstra Kids to Kangaroos program. Also taking part are a number of players from Sydney NRL clubs including Roosters Braith Anasta, Ryan Cross and Mark Edmonson; Bulldogs Nate Myles and Nick Couparitsas; and Dragons players Matt Bickerstaff and Sam Isemonger. “These children are the future of Rugby League and I love nothing more than being able to provide them with some insights to the game that has provided me with so many opportunities,” current Parramatta, NSW State of Origin and Australian Kangaroos representative Nathan Hindmarsh said. “It is inspiring to see the children’s enthusiasm and to provide them with vital sporting and healthy lifestyle messages at the same time.” This is the second year the Super Clinic has been run in Sydney and is one of the more than 70 clinics run by Macquarie Bank Sports each year for the benefit of over 8000 children. All clinics are hosted by national sporting identities in rugby union, cricket, rugby league, netball, basketball and hockey, enabling children to learn from their role models. Macquarie Bank Sports Chief Operating Officer Brad McCarroll said: “The program aims to give as many children as possible a chance to experience rugby league and meet positive role models. It is wonderful to see so many elite players from different Sydney NRL clubs lending their time to pass on their knowledge and experience to many of the up and coming League players.” *All players will be available for interviews and photographs during the day.
