Andrew Johns to coach the youth of rugby league |
|
|
09 July 2007 Rugby league legend Andrew Johns, Australian representative Nathan Hindmarsh and other NRL players will pass on their skills to up to 400 young boys and girls from Sydney and regional NSW in a Macquarie Bank Sports Super Clinic this week. The clinic is a joint initiative with Australian Rugby League’s Kids to Kangaroos program and Macquarie Bank Sports. Also taking part are a number of players from Sydney NRL clubs including Lance Thompson and Paul Gallen from the Cronulla Sharks and David Kidwell from the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Paul Walker from the Australian Rugby League said: "The program aims to give as many children as possible a chance to experience rugby league and meet positive role models. It is wonderful to see so many elite players lending their time to pass on their knowledge and experience on to many of the up and coming league players." Macquarie Bank Sports has been running sports programs for eight years, reaching more than 8000 children a year. All camps are hosted by national and international sporting identities in rugby union, cricket, rugby league, netball, basketball and AFL. Participants are provided with the opportunity to learn from their sporting role models such as Matthew Hayden, Liz Ellis, Nathan Hindmarsh, John Eales and Jason Smith. *All players will be available for interviews and photographs during the day.
