Advanced Spreadsheet Skills for Finance
Excel is a more powerful tool and has more applications than many users realise. To take a simple example: Many users are aware that Excel has a conditional formatting ability that will automatically highlight cells that meet a specified criterion (e.g. cells that contain values larger than a specified amount). But how many users are aware that conditional formatting can be used in more advanced ways: For example to highlight duplicates in a list, the largest "N" entries in a list, or values that differ from the mean by a specified number of standard deviations. This course covers the more sophisticated - and often underutilised - features of Excel and shows how they can be applied in financial applications and - particularly - models.
Participants in this two day course should have prior experience with Excel.
Companies can be modelled and valued in various ways, including on a discounted cash-flow basis, on a relative "ratios" basis and in terms of the economic value added by the parts of the company. Whichever method is used finance, accounting and spreadsheet skills are required. This course introduces each of these valuation approaches, describes how they relate to each other, and shows how finance, accounting and spreadsheet principles can be applied to their implementation.
Participants in this one day course should have prior experience with Excel and with basic finance and accounting concepts like compounding and the structure of balance sheets.
The purpose of this one-day course is to enhance participants' knowledge about the features, behaviour and management of a range of exotic options. The course is designed for finance professionals whose work brings them into contact with exchange traded and OTC options in equity, foreign exchange and commodities markets.
Financial modelling involves developing a spreadsheet that describes a financial structure. Having developed the model it is then used for one or more of the following purposes: valuing the structure, predicting how the structure will behave in various scenarios, determining sensitivities and risks to variations in parameters, optimising a performance index, managing the structure and reporting on its status.
Financial modelling uses the skill sets of finance, accounting and spreadsheet design. Participants in this one-day course should be familiar with excel and also with the finance concepts of compounding, present value, future value and internal rate of return and should be aware of accounting concepts like liabilities and assets, balance sheets and income and cashflow statements.
Participants in this one day course should have prior experience with Excel.
This course is a compilation of powerful and time saving features of Excel that are often useful in finance. The program will provide those attending with a range of new skills that they can apply in their everyday use of Excel. Expanding upon basic Excel knowledge, the workshop will show examples of useful functions and features enabling participants to improve upon their current data and spreadsheet systems. This includes techniques for manipulating and organising data into a more useful format. It will also provide a number of techniques to clean and protect data and thereby improve the accuracy of spreadsheet analysis.
The course has a unique structure that combines lecture, discussion and interactive workshops. Practical spreadsheet based examples illustrate applications of the course content and form a large component of the total course time. A CD containing the exercises together with answers is provided to participants at the end of the course.
Partipants are expected to have at least a basic knowledge and experience with Excel.
The purpose of this one-day course is to familiarise participants with the features, behaviour and pricing of vanilla options. The course is designed for financial professionals whose work brings them into contact with exchange traded and OTC options in equity, foreign exchange and commodities markets.
The purpose of this course is to enhance participant's knowledge about the features, behaviour and management of a range of options. Spreadsheets are a powerful tool in finance. Visual Basic can further increase the power, usefulness and range of applications of spreadsheets. The large range of functions available in Visual Basic can be daunting to users. Which are the most important and useful functions to learn first? Which are the more specialised and can be left to be learned later? The aim of this course is to study and apply the Visual Basic functions that are typically the most useful for people developing financial spreadsheets.
Participants in this one day course should be familiar with excel and have programming experience in another language or in Visual Basic.
