Arqiva provides analogue and digital television services to the broadcast industry, transmitting to 22 million homes from a network of 1,154 sites, of which it controls approximately half.
Arqiva is at the forefront of the digital switchover which started in October 2008 at Whitehaven and is expected to be completed by 2012. In most cases, Arqiva's existing structures are able to accommodate the new antenna systems without modification. However, approximately 5,000 analogue transmitters need to be removed and replaced by over 4,000 digital transmitters. Arqiva's existing analogue and low-power digital revenue will ultimately be replaced by the revenue from the contracts for high-power digital services.
