SBS Awards BA 8 New Digital TV Services

19 May 2003

Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group (MCG) is pleased to announce the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) has awarded Broadcast Australia (BA) 8 additional digital television transmission services.

The key impacts of these contracts will be:

  • once fully operational, approximately $1.7m additional revenue per annum will be generated for BA for a period of 15 years from commissioning (total value over the contract period is $26.1m); and
  • the contracts will enhance BA's long term revenue profile and reinforce BA's relationship with SBS as the major supplier of digital television transmission services.

Scott Davies, CEO of MCG said "BA now has 95% of forecast revenue contracted until June 2005. This is a significant improvement over the 89% that was forecast in the IPO prospectus. BA has successfully continued to develop its business as a supplier of digital television transmission services."

"This takes the number of digital television transmission services the SBS has contracted BA to provide to 78 sites nationally," said Mr Davies.

SBS' agreement is subject to Ministerial approval of SBS' Digital Implementation Plans for each location.
