Macquarie Infrastructure Group 407ETR, M1, M4 and M5 Traffic May 2003

Macquarie Infrastructure Group (MIG), today announced details of traffic use for the 407ETR toll road in Toronto and the Eastern Distributor (M1), M4 and M5 toll roads in Sydney.

Due to restrictions imposed by a number of legal agreements dealing with the 407ETR, only monthly statistics on Average Workday Traffic and Total Vehicle Kilometres Travelled can be released. More detailed statistics on the 407ETR are released quarterly.

MIG currently owns:

  • Both directly and indirectly (through its holding in Spanish company, Cintra) 43.0% of the equity in 407 International Inc, the owner of the concession for the 407ETR toll road in Toronto;
  • 71.35% of the equity in the Airport Motorway Group, the owner of the concession for the Eastern Distributor (M1) in Sydney;
  • 50.6% of Statewide Roads Limited, the owner of the concession for the M4 toll road in Sydney; and
  • 50% of Interlink Roads Pty Limited, the owner of the concession for the M5 toll road in Sydney.

Total Vehicle Kilometres Travelled on the 407ETR during May 2003 was 2.4% lower than May 2002.

The average number of workday trips on the 407ETR during May 2003 was 0.9% higher than May 2002.

Note that tolls, including the surcharge for non-transponder users, were increased by approximately 15% on 1 February 2003.

Average daily toll revenue (net of GST) for Airport Motorway in May 2003 was $139,281 - a 16.1% increase relative to May 2002.

Average daily tolled traffic on the Eastern Distributor (M1) for May 2003 was 1.9% higher than May 2002.

Average workday traffic on the Eastern Distributor (M1) for May 2003 was 3.3% higher than May 2002.

Average traffic on weekends and public holidays on the Eastern Distributor (M1) for May 2003 was 1.5% higher than May 2002.

Non-cash transactions on the Eastern Distributor (M1) consisted of 46% of average daily traffic in May 2003 (April 2003: 42%).

Note that tolls for Class A vehicles (cars) were increased from $3.50 to $4.00 (inclusive of GST) on 27 April 2003.

Average daily toll revenue (net of GST) for Interlink Roads in May 2003 was $292,809 - a 7.6% increase relative to May 2002.

Average daily traffic on the M5 for May 2003 was 6.5% higher than May 2002.

Average workday traffic on the M5 for May 2003 was 7.7% higher than May 2002.

Average traffic on weekends and public holidays on the M5 for May 2003 was 5.6% higher than May 2002.

Non-cash transactions on the M5 in May 2003 consisted of 69% of average daily traffic (April 2003: 66%).

Average daily traffic on the M4 for May 2003 was 3.8% higher than May 2002.

Average workday traffic on the M4 for May 2003 was 4.3% higher than May 2002.

Average traffic on weekends and public holidays on the M4 for May 2003 was 5.5% higher than May 2002.

Non-cash transactions on the M4 in May 2003 consisted of 55% of average daily traffic (April 2003: 53%).
