Acquisition and ownership

MMG completed the acquisition of 100% of ACM in February 2007. ACM’s scale and diversity have since been increased through new product launches and complementary acquisitions, including:

  • 100% of Superior Publishing Corporation and all of Grove Sun Newspaper Co. publications in June 2007.
  • All of Chesapeake Publishing Corporation’s publications and 11 publications from Brown Publishing Company in November 2007.

ACM's business

ACM publishes 105 local newspapers which serve 18 geographic regions across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Delaware and Michigan, some of which are among the fastest growing regions in the United States. The publications consist of 15 daily newspapers, 46 weekly newspapers and 45 “shopper” and specialty publications and associated websites.

ACM’s publications are the key local news and advertising mediums in their communities and have strong positions and long established histories in these regions.

ACM generates almost all of its advertising revenue from local advertising.  Efficiencies have been achieved by centralising the majority of its printing and many of the back-office support functions at its daily newspaper operations or its Dallas head office.

The opportunity exists to build a larger portfolio of publications due to the highly fragmented nature of the US community newspaper industry, which will allow ACM to improve market coverage and extract operational efficiencies.
