I joined Macquarie via the graduate program in 2002, with the belief that opportunities were available to those who work hard. My expectations were realised and I have since progressed to managing discretionary equity portfolios for our sophisticated and professional investor client base.

Every day in the Banking and Financial Services Group brings new and different challenges, because the market is constantly changing. As a Portfolio Manager with Macquarie Private Portfolio Management, I am responsible for the investments of many not-for-profit clients. It’s very satisfying to know that our detailed analysis and careful risk management assists these organisations in continuing to grow their philanthropic activities.

Macquarie has supported me in pursuing post-graduate education, and has provided opportunities to engage in interesting activities such as working with the media. If you demonstrate that you are capable of progressing, then you will.

I started as a graduate with Macquarie in 2005. I now head up the team that I joined in 2005 and work with 10 highly committed and highly talented analysts. Our team motto is to make our work a reward in itself and not just a way to reward. We learn together, achieve together, and celebrate wins together. It's an awesome team to be a part of!

Whenever people ask me what it is that I like about working at Macquarie I tell them that it is three things: I like the people I work with, I find the work really interesting, and it is a business that looks after its staff.

Things happen so quickly at Macquarie that opportunities for career progression and development pop up all the time. My experience is that Macquarie really values its staff and is keen to up-skill them whenever possible. We are encouraged to maintain a healthy work-life balance: we work hard but also make time for family, friends and recreation.

If I had to pick one thing I like most about working at Macquarie, it would be the variety. We deal with so many different products and interact with so many businesses that things change all the time and there is always something new on the horizon. At Macquarie, you are always learning.

Working at Macquarie has given me the freedom to pursue the professional avenues that interest me. In recent years, I have taken on new challenges in the areas of people and project management. I have also had to opportunity to contribute to initiatives which impact teams across the business. At times this has forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, however the end result has made this worthwhile.

I have had the opportunity to work in a couple of different roles with Macquarie. My current role is full of variety, something new is always on the horizon and you are continually learning even while helping others to develop.

I am also fortunate in that I work with some really great people...you spend a good portion of your day at work so being able to have fun while you work is important.
