Graduate and intern recruitment process

At Macquarie, we believe our most valuable assets leave the building at the end of the day. So we focus on recruiting and then retaining people who will thrive in the Macquarie culture and support our goals and values. To help us find those people, we use a combination of interviews and psychometric assessment.

Our recruitment is not based solely on academic achievements. We are looking for candidates who meet a broad range of criteria and can make a positive and ongoing contribution to the organisation.

The timeline, number of steps and evaluation process will vary across our organisation and divisions, but the standard process for most positions follows these four steps.

You can search vacancies and career opportunities, and apply online. You will need to attach your resume and any other supporting documents requested in the job advertisement. Our recruitment team will assess the suitability of your application and get back to you.

The interview process is an opportunity for you to get to know Macquarie, clarify the opportunities available to you and demonstrate your technical knowledge. Interviews will take place with a representative from HR, our businesses or a combination of both. The number and type of interviews across the groups will vary.

Psychometric assessment is a normal part of the selection process at Macquarie, and provides a reliable and independent evaluation of the likelihood of job success and satisfaction.

You can complete a psychometric assessment in a variety of languages, so you can choose your native or preferred language to give yourself the best opportunity to perform well. Don’t worry about the location of the position you are applying for - you should only complete the assessment in English if that is your strongest language from the available list of up to 31 languages.

Tips for success:

  • complete the assessment in your native or preferred language
  • bring reading glasses if you need them. All other materials will be provided
  • get a good night’s sleep, wear comfortable clothing, and eat something prior to the assessment
  • reschedule the assessment if you are unwell or facing circumstances which may adversely impact your performance, as you only have one opportunity to complete the assessment
  • bring a valid form of photo identification with you to the assessment, as we cannot conduct the assessment without it
  • let the Macquarie Assessments team know if you have an illness, physical or mental condition, or there are other circumstances that may prevent you from obtaining the best possible outcome on the assessment, so we can consider making appropriate and reasonable adjustments. Macquarie encourages open discussion about an applicant’s disability at all stages of the recruitment and placement process and aims to give an applicant every opportunity to perform at their best.

Preparing for assessment:

No study or preparation is required, and practice questions and comprehensive instructions will be provided to you when you sit the assessment. However we do recommend that you visit: http://www.shldirect.com/practice_tests.html for information about assessments and to access practice online assessments to give you an idea of what to expect on the day.

To ensure the quality and integrity of our hiring process, Macquarie uses employment screening as part of our standard recruitment processes.

Employment screening enables us to make prudent decisions on hiring, promotions and changes of duties that are based on informed understanding of your background and credentials. Screening also facilitates compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Macquarie’s employment screening process is facilitated by approved third party vendors.

The information generated from the interview process and psychometric assessment, in combination with all of the other information gathered during the selection process, will be used to obtain a comprehensive view of the match between you and the position you have applied for.
