What attracted you to the Human Resources (HR) Division?
I was mainly interested in the human capital element of management. The Macquarie HR team offered a unique opportunity for me to rotate through the diverse functions from learning and recruitment to organisational development and employment relations consulting. Macquarie stood out as my ideal employer because the HR division is not only a support function, but clearly generates value for the business. Senior leaders acknowledge that Macquarie's most important assets are the ones that go home every day: their people.
What does your role entail? What do you enjoy most about your role?
As a graduate, I am undertaking an 18 month rotation across five teams giving me the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of the entire HR function and how it generates value for the business. I will join the recruitment, learning, organisational development, reward and employee relations teams during my program. What I like most about my role is the diversity – I have the flexibility to work on various cross-team projects and the rotational nature of the graduate program ensures I am always confronted with new challenges and a continual learning curve.
What type of training and development have you undertaken to date?
You will find that the opportunities to partake in training and development programs are never ending at Macquarie. The most valuable sessions to date have been those where HR staff can extend their knowledge of each business across Macquarie and discover how HR can best partner with these businesses to provide valuable services.
Describe the type of people you work with?
Considering the diverse nature of the HR function at Macquarie, there are a wide variety of personalities and people who come from a range of disciplines from law to psychology. Ultimately, everyone embodies the typical Macquarie characteristics: driven, entrepreneurial and forward thinking.
How would you describe the environment?
I am lucky enough to be in an ABW (Activity Based Working) environment in Martin Place. My floor has been refurbished with relaxed breakout areas, a trendy kitchen space and open plan work stations. The basic premise of ABW is to enhance collaboration and teamwork and create a flexible and interactive work environment.
