Macquarie can offer many career development opportunities. After working out of the Sydney office for a few years, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to move to Hong Kong to cover the Asian markets. Since then, I have been involved in a variety of deals across the entire Asia Pacific region. The exposure I have had has been invaluable and has allowed me to improve my business and investment skills significantly.

As part of my role, I am constantly meeting new people. I find that I get quite a positive reaction from many of them when tell them I work for Macquarie. Macquarie is well recognised and has developed a strong brand and reputation in Asia over the years. Brand and reputation go a long way when doing business in Asia, so it is definitely useful working for an organisation that has a good one.

I have seen my team grow by more than 5 times over the years. I continue to be impressed by the calibre of individuals Macquarie is able to attract. My colleagues are continuously generating new ideas and finding ways to create value. After all, it's the people that make any organisation, and at Macquarie, there are a lot of amazing people with amazing ideas. The opportunities I am currently seeing are very exciting, and I am looking forward to continuing to build and add value our business.

Macquarie has such a range of products on offer that my knowledge and experience is constantly being challenged. Even though we have daily processes that need to be dealt with, my role still has enough variety to challenge me, and issues arise that require me to think on my feet.

There is a strong ethic of teamwork both in my own team and across my department that makes my job enjoyable. At the same time, I also enjoy building relationships between Macquarie and custodians and brokers, worldwide.

Macquarie is open and direct in what is expected of you. You are supported through external studies, and your ideas and recommendations receive support. I've been able to progress my career within funds management, and had the opportunity to build strong networking associates.

 I joined Macquarie at a manager level, attracted by its good reputation and career opportunities, and have since progressed to Executive Director. My major responsibilities are new business development, managing existing relationships and products, and managing people. I've particularly enjoyed the freedom that Macquarie provides you to explore and implement new business opportunities. The Macquarie Pastoral Fund is a case in point. The Pastoral Fund has grown from being a concept only a few years ago, to today owning and operating over three million hectares of land and being one of the largest producers of sheep and beef-cattle in Australia.
