Macquarie Nine Film and Televison Fund is celebrating a string of recent successes including the completion of filming YOU AND YOUR STUPID MATE, starring Rachel Hunter.
It will mark the end of filming with an exclusive cocktail party in Melbourne, which will also celebrate McLeod’s Daughters becoming the most popular Australian drama for 2003. A fourth series of the popular show has just been commissioned.
The party will also toast the start of production of Jimeoin’s new feature film, THE EXTRA.
YOU AND YOUR STUPID MATE tells the story of lifetime mates Jeffrey and Philip. They are happily unemployed, living together in an outer-suburb caravan park - until everything goes wrong. Rachel Hunter plays Karen, the caravan park goddess and mother of an indeterminable number of children.
YOU AND YOUR STUPID MATE also stars Nathan Phillips (Australian Rules, Under The Radar) and Madeleine West (Neighbours) in her first feature film. Written by comedians Dave O’Neil and Mark O’Toole, the film is directed by Marc Gracie, who is also producing the film with David Redman and Bryce Menzies.
Executive producers of both YOU AND YOUR STUPID MATE and THE EXTRA will host the Melbourne party, during which NINE Films and Television’s Posie Graeme-Evans and Macquarie Bank Group’s Jennie Hughes will officially announce the cast of THE EXTRA.
Starring and written by comedian Jimeoin, THE EXTRA is a romantic comedy about a regular Joe Blow who sees movie stars attracting money and girls and thinks to himself, ‘why not me?’. Other cast include Bob Franklin, Sean Micallef, Katherine Slattery, Helen Dallimore and Rhys Muldoon.
THE EXTRA will be directed by Kevin Carlin and produced by Stephen Luby, Mark Ruse and Bruno Charlesworth. Production of the film, which will be shot in and around Melbourne, commences on March 6.
