Our first Annual Members' Meeting

Introduction

On 10 March 2021, Macquarie Investment Management Limited (MIML), the Trustee of the Macquarie Superannuation Plan (the Fund), held its first Annual Members’ Meeting virtually for members of this Fund.

The meeting provided members with the opportunity to join the MIML Board of Directors and Executive team to review the Fund’s key achievements during the year to 30 June 2020 and hear an update for the year ahead.

During the meeting, Members also had the chance to ask questions of the Board of Directors, Executive team, and fund auditors.

Chairman's address

In his opening address, John provides insights into:

  • the superannuation industry, including an overview of some of the structural aspects of the Macquarie Superannuation Plan
  • the role of the trustee of a superannuation fund, including a brief look at the work of MIML, the trustee of the Macquarie Superannuation Plan
  • the Trustee’s business plan, strategic objectives, and member outcomes.

Macquarie Superannuation Plan update

In her Fund update, Michelle provides an overview of:

  • the Macquarie Superannuation Plan 
  • the main regulatory measures currently impacting superannuation funds, including the ‘Member Outcomes’ reforms, recommendations from the Financial Services Royal Commission and the ‘Your Future, Your Super’ reforms.
  • the key activities for the Fund over the last financial year, including impacts of COVID-19, new product enhancements, consolidation of older style superannuation and pension accounts and the launch of new and enhanced security features
  • key focus areas for the year ahead, including continued simplification of our products, evolving our technology, and facilitating a focus on ESG investing.

Summary

Member Outcomes Assessment Summary

The trustee of Macquarie Superannuation Plan, MIML (the Trustee), is now required to annually assess and compare the quality and competitiveness of its superannuation and pension products. This is a new regulatory requirement that was legislated in 2019.

The Trustee recently completed its first member outcomes assessment for the Macquarie Superannuation Plan for the period 1 December 2019 to 30 November 2020.
