Open a transaction or savings account

You can open a Macquarie Transaction or Savings account for yourself or with someone else (joint account) by completing an online application via Macquarie Online Banking or via the Macquarie Mobile banking app. We’ve designed this process to be quick and easy.

• Macquarie Transaction Account
• Macquarie Savings Account – you will need to first open a Transaction Account to open a Savings account. 

Before we open an account

Before we can open an account, we’ll verify your identity and may ask you for some additional information. See what you need to open an account.

Macquarie Transaction and Savings account can only be opened by the account applicant under either individual or joint names. This means you cannot open a Macquarie Transaction or Savings account on behalf of another, even if you hold a Power of Attorney or Enduring Power of Attorney.

To open (and keep open) an account, you must be over 12 years of age and have:

• a permanent Australian residential address,
• an Australian mobile phone number, and
• a valid email address.

An application may be unsuccessful if your circumstances didn’t meet certain acceptance criteria or regulatory conditions for the product. We recommend reading our terms and conditions before applying.

Open via Macquarie Online Banking

If this is your first time with Macquarie:

1. Visit macquarie.com.au
   
2. Select Everyday banking
3. Under Transaction Account, click Find out more
4. Select Open an account and follow the prompts.

Once you open a Macquarie Transaction Account, you can open a savings account with the steps below.

If you have an existing account with Macquarie:

1. Log in to Macquarie Online Banking 
2. Click Open an account at the top of your accounts list 
3. Find the account option you want to open. Click Open an account and follow the prompts.

Open via Macquarie Mobile Banking app

If this is your first time with Macquarie:

1. Download the Macquarie Mobile Banking app
2. Select Start an application
3. Select Open an account and follow the prompts.

Once you open a Macquarie Transaction Account, you can link a savings account with the steps below.

If you have an existing account with Macquarie:

1. Open your Macquarie Mobile Banking app
2. Select the Accounts tab on the bottom left of your screen
3. Select Open an account at the bottom of your accounts list
4. Find the account option you want to open by scrolling left or right. Click Open an account and follow the prompts.
