Macquarie ID+ is only available to clients who can access Macquarie Online Banking or the Macquarie Mobile Banking app.

Why use Macquarie ID+?

Macquarie ID+ offers a secure and convenient way to confirm your identity and help protect you from identity theft. Since your facial features are unique to you, this is our most secure way to verify your identity. This means you can action banking activities requiring higher security digitally, without having to contact us. It makes managing your accounts simpler and more secure.

Is Macquarie ID+ different to Face ID?

Macquarie ID+ and Face ID are different features. Face ID is an iOS feature which allows you to log in to your device, and any apps (e.g. Macquarie Mobile Banking or Macquarie Authenticator), by scanning your face. See more information on setting up Face ID.

How do I register for Macquarie ID+?

Before you register for Macquarie ID+:

  • you’ll need to have your current, physical Australian driver licence or Australian passport ready
  • if you're an existing customer, you’ll first need to download and set up the Macquarie Authenticator app on your device
  • your mobile device will need to be updated to either Android 8.0 or iOS 15.0, or above. You can check this in your device settings.

To set up Macquarie ID+, follow the four steps below:

Step 1: Register using Macquarie Authenticator

  1. Select Menu then Macquarie ID+
  2. Select Register.

Alternatively, you can begin the registration process via your security settings in the Macquarie Mobile Banking app or Macquarie Online Banking. You'll be directed to the Macquarie Authenticator app to complete your registration.

Step 2: Scan your Australian ID document

When scanning your physical Australian driver licence or Australian passport, make sure all the details on the document can be clearly seen and you’re in a well-lit area.

Scanning your Australian driver licence

  1. Scan the front of your licence
  2. Scan the back of your licence.

Scanning your Australian passport

  1. Scan the page of your passport with your photo and details
  2. Close your passport and ensure the front cover is facing up for the NFC chip scan
  3. Hold your phone flat on top of your passport with the screen facing up
  4. Adjust the placement of your phone until scanning starts
  5. Once scanning has started, don’t move the phone until the scan is successful.

If you don’t have a current physical Australian driver licence or Australian passport, you won’t be able to register for Macquarie ID+. Please contact us via live chat or call us on +61 2 8550 5666, 24/7 if you need assistance.

Step 3: Review and edit your details

Please ensure all your scanned details are correct and are an exact match to what’s on your ID document. If you have an initial as your middle name on your ID document, please edit the ‘middle name’ field to provide your full middle name.

Step 4: Scan your face

Make sure you're in a well-lit area when taking a photo of your face using your phone’s camera.

  1. Remove any hats, masks or glasses
  2. Make sure your face is within the frame
  3. Hold your phone still until the scan is successful and the picture is uploaded.

If you’re unable to scan your face successfully, you won’t be able to register for Macquarie ID+. Please contact us via live chat or call us on +61 2 8550 5666, 24/7 if you need assistance.

What if I can’t register for Macquarie ID+?

In some cases we may be unable to verify your identity  through Macquarie ID+. You will receive an error message after attempting to register along with instructions to retry in some instances.

Below are some of the reasons why you may not be able to register for Macquarie ID+:

  • We couldn’t match your details to your ID. This error can occur if your ID is damaged, dirty or there is light causing reflections on the document. You may need to order a replacement, or you can try again with a different ID.
  • We’re having trouble verifying your identity. This error can occur if:
    • you haven’t provided your full middle name
    • you only have initials on your licence, or
    • you haven’t updated your personal details with the relevant organisational bodies.
  • We’re unable to verify your identity. This error can occur when your face scan does not match the photo on your ID. In this case you will need to order a replacement ID with an up-to-date picture of your face and retry.

If you’re unable to register to Macquarie ID+ with either your Australian driver’s licence or passport, please contact us via live chat or call us on +61 2 8550 5666, 24/7 if you need assistance.
