Registering for Macquarie ID+

Macquarie ID+ is a security feature that uses your unique facial features (biometrics) to confirm your identity and enables you to approve banking activities that require higher security. For example, if you’ve lost access to your old device.

Macquarie ID+ is only available to personal customers who can access Macquarie Online Banking or the Macquarie Mobile Banking app and have the Macquarie Authenticator app.

Macquarie ID+ offers a secure and convenient way to confirm your identity and help protect you from identity theft and unauthorised transactions. Since your facial features are unique to you, this is our most secure way to verify your identity. This means you can action banking activities requiring higher security at any time, without having to contact us. It makes managing your accounts simpler and more secure.

Yes – Macquarie ID+ and Face ID are different features. 

Face ID is a feature of your device’s operating system which allows you to log in to your device and any apps by scanning your face (e.g. Macquarie Mobile Banking or Macquarie Authenticator). See more information on setting up Face ID.

Macquarie ID+ enables a higher level of security, by prompting you to scan your face in order to validate your identity once you’re logged in to the Macquarie Authenticator app.

You’ll need to do a few things before you register for Macquarie ID+: 

• have your current, physical Australian driver licence or Australian passport ready 
• if you haven’t already, you’ll first need to download and set up the Macquarie Authenticator app (version 5.1 or later) on your device
• your mobile device will need to be updated to either Android 8.0 or iOS 16.0, or above. You can check this in your device settings. 

To set up Macquarie ID+, follow the four steps below:

• Step 1: Register for Macquarie+ using Macquarie Authenticator
• Step 2: Scan your Australian ID document
• Step 3: Review and edit your details
• Step 4: Scan your face.

In some cases, we may be unable to verify your identity through Macquarie ID+. You will receive an error message after attempting to register along with instructions to retry in some instances.

Some of the reasons why you may not be able to register for Macquarie ID+ may be:

• We couldn’t match your details to your ID: This error can occur if your ID is damaged, dirty or there is light causing reflections on the document. You may need to order a replacement, or you can try again with a different ID.
• We’re having trouble verifying your identity: This error can occur if:
  • you haven’t provided your full middle name
  • you only have initials on your licence, or
  • you haven’t updated your personal details with the relevant organisational bodies.
• We’re unable to verify your identity: This error can occur when your face scan does not match the photo on your ID. In this case you will need to order a replacement ID with an up-to-date picture of your face and retry.

Yes, you are required to register for Macquarie ID+ again. Before you register, make sure Macquarie Authenticator has been updated to the latest version on your device.

Note, the biometric information collected from your previous registration has been securely erased.

If you have multiple Macquarie IDs, Macquarie ID+ will be associated with all the Macquarie IDs under your name. Please note this security feature is only available to customers who can access the Macquarie Online Banking app and Macquarie Mobile Banking and have the Macquarie Authenticator app.

We collect, use and disclose your facial biometric data for the purpose of validating your identity. We do this when:

• You first register for Macquarie ID+
• We require you to authorise an activity on your account (e.g. when you set up your new device using Macquarie ID+)

Your facial biometric data is collected, processed and stored on our behalf by our service provider Incode Australia Pty Ltd ACN 685 699 521. We handle your data in line with our Privacy Statement.

If you don’t consent to your biometric data being collected and handled by us, we may not be able to verify your identity. If we cannot verify your identity, you:

• won’t be able to proceed with actions that require biometric verification (e.g. register a new device).
