Spotlight on business

Why this growth-focused business holds tight to its founding purpose as it expands.

Four insights

01

Purpose

Having a strong sense of purpose goes hand-in-hand with caring for animals as a vet, and is a driving motivator for the team at Vet HQ. “We are a veterinary clinic for animals who are very, very well loved by their owners. We treat them as if they’re our own pets, and we treat the clients as if they were our own family,” says Dr Green.

02

Talent

Hiring standards have to remain high in a business like Vet HQ, which requires both specialised and sensitive staff to best serve its clients. "Emotional intelligence is a huge part of what we do,” says Dr Green. “One of the more preliminary ways we assess that is we require people to do a personality test before we hire, our interview process is also quite in depth.”

03

Community

The team at Vet HQ is actively involved in community work, inclusive of donating their time for surgeries and care. “The most rewarding part of community work is seeing the bond between people and their animals,” says Dr Green. “We’ve had situations where we’ve seen people really pull themselves up, because they’ve had this animal to live for.”

04

Operations

The operations at Vet HQ are designed to both efficiently run its practices, and also, free its vets to focus on what they’re best at. “It’s really important to engage experts and focus on your talent. We’re good vets and decent at managing our staff, but when it comes to the larger operations, we tend to outsource,” says Dr Green.
